SOC Holds First Meeting

Story by Meghen Jones

The Student Organization Council ( SOC) held their first meeting Sept. 2, 2016. This meeting was led by Angel Martin, Director of Student Activities and Recreational Sports. The SOC met to discuss the upcoming events for the Fall semester.

Three guest speakers spoke about on-campus services offered to students. These speakers included Angie Pellerin, Jennifer Flynn-McKevitt and Correll Hammond.

Hammond, Director of the new Student Success Center, emphasized academic services students can receive. These services focus on free tutoring along with college success series and academic coaching. Students can also receive online tutoring through Moodle. All of these services are free.

Students can look forward to two upcoming events in September. The State of the U will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. in the University Center Theater. Chancellor Larry Clark will be speaking at this meeting.

Students can also participate in the Color Run that has been rescheduled to Thursday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the University Center Apartments' crosswalk. This event was considered a fun and successful event last semester.

SOC will hold their next meeting Friday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. in the University Center.
