LSUS Counseling Services is hosting Resilience Through Dark Times, showcasing students’ creations during difficult moments in their lives. It is hosted on the third floor at Noel Memorial Library until 1 pm.
The exhibit hosts a variety of over 25 works, from visual paintings to literary works such as poems and stories of depression, sudden losses, and what these tragic moments can teach people about resilience and coping with loss. “Creativity has many mental health benefits, like reducing anxiety and stress and allowing space to process difficult experiences and emotions. I think our students are incredibly brave and authentic for sharing their work with us. Our hope is that the exhibit will also shed light on suicide prevention and awareness and foster community among our LSUS community.” said Kendal Redel, Director of LSUS Counseling Services.
The exhibit also featured a variety of relaxing and creativity-driven activities including button making, ghost painting, and Buddha boards to encourage visitors to tap into their creativity and be inspired from these stories of resilience.
LSUS was also joined by the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling, who was there to give more information to people who are struggling with mental health.“One of the things we believe in is to express yourself. It's one of our things that we kind of go to when you're in crisis or overwhelmed is to journal or do art.” said Bridget Vasko, administrative assistant at Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling. The collaboration between LSUS and LACG for this exhibit highlights resources both on and off campus to help people going through difficult times in their life.
