Shreveport, LA- Fifty-one students from more than thirty schools will put their spelling skills to the test as LSUS hosts its annual Spelling Bee tomorrow (March 1, 2025) at the University City Ballroom. The event, a tradition for more than fifteen years, is one of the region’s largest academic competitions.
Registration opens at 8 a.m., with contestants required to check in before the official competition begins at 9:30 a.m. Jason Gennity, Assistant Director of LSUS Collaboratory & K-12 Programming, said the Spelling Bee is a standout among the many regional events LSUS organizes.
“We do a lot with regional events—science fairs, social studies fairs—but the Spelling Bee is always a favorite,” Gennity said.
The competition will conclude between noon and 1:30 p.m., with winners advancing to higher-level contests, ultimately aiming for a spot at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. The national champion will receive the prestigious Scripps Cup, a $50,000 cash prize, and additional awards from sponsors.
